One more button

Post by bagonails on Sat Apr 07, 2012 8:30 pm

I went out to Radziminski for a few hours to go over a spot that has been pounded. The pickens were slim, but It was not a bad day.

The can has a solder joint that is pretty clean and straingt, funny thing about the lead its .22 cal, but two of them are really white. I have been told that it takes 100 years to get the white patina. The thing above the nail is about the size of a razor blade, rounded at one end a sharp on the other. I have no idea what it is.

Bago,

I have been told the same thing about the lead patina. Also they have .22 listed in all of my Civil War bullet books.

Two of them are just as white as the minies we pull out, and have a different looking base than the two others. My caliper has disapeared, but they even look a hair smaller.

Very nice button..
The white patina doesn't have so much to do with time but more to do with environmental conditions it was exposed to..
Patina can vary greatly due to the soil type, moisture content, minerals present, chemicals and fertilizers, so on and so on..Collectors love the pure white patina but in some cases it will never develop.. :-((

Thanks Evan,
I will be posting some perfect examples later this week that I recovered the past 12 days in west Texas.. It was a very productive trip, recovered a number of 2 and 3 ringers and 6 or 7 Military buttons..An 1853 dime I think, date is clear but needs some cleaning on it to be sure.. I think I will try the distilled water and freezing method even though the results on the copper coin I found didn't help much.. The buttons are very stable and in good condition, should I soak them in olive oil?? Thanks for suggestions..
Sonny
