The lowly headphone jack! Empty The lowly headphone jack!

We all love our machines, and try to take care of them, but who ever thinks of the poor headphone jack. I noticed some static in my headphones the other day, and I've read multiple times of the headphone jack failing on various machines, and it made me think back to my stereo days of headphone jacks causing problems. Simple fix, take a few Q-tips, and a bottle of rubbing alcohol, dip the Q-tips in the alcohol and clean out the jack. Repeat until the Q-tips come out clean, it took 3 for mine, then allow to air dry or blow with canned air. The static is gone and the tension has returned to the retaining spring. A little dirt can really gum up a lot of things. Hope this helps! I know you relic hunters are a nasty bunch.
