Wonder if it was spur decoration??
Gonehunting, DPDave, and I were invited to hunt a pasture adjacent to Fort Towson in S.E. Oklahoma by BJeep. We were having a grand time when GH and I found a matching set of plates about 6 to 8 feet apart. These plates were approximately 9 inches deep and are about the size of a quarter (just a tad larger). I have looked around the internet and can't seem to find them anywhere.Anyway here is a picture.
There was also a 1812 riflery horn button found near by.(the federal troops were in this area from 1824 up until the CSA took over the fort during the civil war).Any help IDing this item would be appreciated!

Is the back of it smooth? I am thinking more like a bridle rosette or harness decoration. The two holes on each side have me stymied about it.

The back side
The back is indented to match the front. GH found some buckle deals that go along with them(we believe)

Ok here is what I have found on spurs.

I wish one of the books had the Eagle in it but I think at least it confirm what you already suspected in that is for sure from a spur. And these two examples in my books are about the right time period too!
